Congratulations!
Your 3M Scotchtint has just been installed...
now what!?  Here are answers to common questions that arise after the installation of most window films.

  1. My new film has bubbles...
  2. How do I clean and care for my new film?
  3. What is the warranty on my Scotchtint?
  4. What if one of my windows breaks?
  5. What if one of my seals fails?

My new film has bubbles...

Your new film is going to look awful.  It may develop small bubbles or a milky appearance.  This is normal and temporary and should not cause concern.  The adhesive is going through the curing process and could take 2 weeks to 45 days depending on type of film and weather conditions.  Rest assured, the film will eventually be smooth and optically clear.

If after 30 days there are still areas you have questions about, please call us and we will take a look.

How do I clean and care for my film?

Do not clean the film for at least 30 days after installation.

Your film is scratch-resistant and easily cleaned using any mild soapy solution and non-abrasive material.  Mild off-the-shelf glass cleaners like Windex are also OK.  Stay away from any harsh, industrial-strength chemicals such as TSP or straight ammonia.  They will damage the finish of the film.  Rubbing alcohol may be used sparingly on small  hard-to-remove spots.

Always use non-abrasive materials to clean the film.  Old diapers, T-shirts, cotton towels work fine.  Almost any kind of soft cloth is OK.  Black rubber squeegees are good.  NO paper products should be used.  They will scratch the film if used regularly.

Never use scotch tape on your window film for pictures, notes, etc..  The small suction cups are OK to use.

Never use razor blades to remove spots from your film.

Professional window cleaners usually know how to handle window films.  If not, refer them to the above guidelines or have them call us.  In addition to the above materials and solutions, they may use the lambs wool scrubber common to many window washers.  Make sure they do not use the same one for outside and inside.  It will be full of grit and dirt that will scratch the film.

Following the above guidelines will give your film an average lifespan of between 10 to 20 years.

What if one of my windows breaks?

Your windows are automatically warranted for 5 years against thermal glass breakage.

If your windows experience thermal breakage, call us first and call immediately.

  1. We will verify the problem with an on site inspection

  2. We will contact a reputable local glazier and have your windows replaced.  At your request, we will use the glazier of your choice.  If the replacement price is over $500, we will get multiple bids if necessary.

  3. We will then make all the financial arrangements and oversee the replacement of your windows.

  4. Once the window is replaced, we will re-film it at no charge.

Pre-existing breakage is not covered.  Impact breakage is not covered (a ball, rock or other object breaking the glass).  Some film-to-glass combinations or situations are restricted and are not covered.  These include our vinyl products and some of our darker more absorptive films.

We will replace any properly warranted window up to a cost of $500 per window.  The customer is responsible for any amount over $500.

What if one of my seals fails?

First of all, there is no seal failure warranty available for commercial applications.

The double pane windows in your home are warranted for 40-months against seal failure if there is a valid manufacturer's warranty in effect at the time of installation.  If you upgraded to 3M's Platinum Warranty, they will be covered for the length of the manufacturer's warranty.

Some film-to-glass combinations or situations are restricted and are not covered.  These should be duly noted prior to installation.

If your windows experience seal failure, call us first and call immediately.  The process is the same as that for thermal glass breakage.

  1. We will verify the problem with an on site inspection
